Activities & Facilities
Camp America's facilities enable your children to participate in an endless array of athletic activities as well as creative and learning endeavors. Our equipment is clean and expertly maintained for the safety and enjoyment of all.

Activities
Athletics
Our extensive athletics program provides a rich experience for children with all different backgrounds and attitudes toward athletic activities. Campers are encouraged to participate in various activities whether they are experienced in the sport or just starting out so they can discover what they enjoy most ¨C from tennis, mini golf, gaga, basketball and hockey to kickball, softball, soccer, newcombe and volleyball. We find creative ways to make sure that every camper is comfortable with participating in various ways in athletic activities and provide opportunities for leadership, organization, and scorekeeping. There are also optional activities such as speed training and basketball clinic. Children learn new skills, teamwork, and sports rules while having a great time playing, competing and laughing.

Swimming
Experience, creativity, knowledge, and dedication are some of the qualities that our team brings to the pool program. Using the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim program, our pool staff prepares interesting and engaging lesson plans that teach swimming strokes and safety. Together, with the assistance of our bunk counselors, we strive to make instructional swim fun for everyone. Games are integrated everyday into the curriculum guaranteeing smiles and success. Using visual, verbal and hands on activities each camper has an opportunity to better understand the importance of being safe in and around the water.

Archery
Campers really enjoy learning about archery at camp. Whether they've never wielded a bow and arrow or are experienced archers, the benefits of archery include focus, concentration and hand eye coordination development. Archery is a self-challenging and rewarding activity, blending physical and mental skills. It is a popular elective activity as well as a regular part of each bunk's weekly schedule.

Challenge
At Challenge, we offer a wide array of climbing elements which are designed to push our campers both mentally and physically. For campers ages 6 and 7, we offer low elements such as the fidget ladder and the Mohawk walk as well as other team-building activities where the entire bunk works together as a single unit. For campers ages 8 through 12, we offer more challenging high elements such as boson's chair, zip line, and the vertical playpen. For these high elements and others, the difficulty progresses from week to week. While climbing on such elements, campers are harnessed in and belayed by our highly qualified challenge staff. Whether climbing the rock wall tower, zipping through the challenge area, or reaching the top of the vertical playpen, our campers are constantly engaged and encouraged to do their best. Challenge is a perennial favorite with all campers and staff year after year.

Gymnastics
At gymnastics our goal is to teach our campers basic gymnastics skills in a fun and safe environment. We have 2 high beams, a low beam, vault, pommel horse, junior bar and rings and a variety of mats. We teach basic gymnastics skills and play games that help the campers improve their balance, flexibility, coordination and strength. Our Division 2 and 3 campers who are enthusiastic about gymnastics can join the team where they work on more advanced skills and show off what they have learned in a gymnastics exhibition at the end of camp.

Drama & Dance
Our drama program focuses on both improvisation and performance. Favorite activities include a skit involving a prompt such as "If I won the lottery I would I...", "It's so hot out I could I...", or a game called "Headlines" where campers make up a headline for a newspaper with a single prop and act out the presentation of the news story. Other types of skits include traveling to the future or costume competitions. Campers have participated in "TV shows" in which they perform a combination of modern and condensed fairy tales and commercial breaks, entirely written and performed by our campers. Campers have an opportunity to perform in front of camp and parent audiences and learn to work in groups, perform in front of an audience, and trust their creative instincts.

Cooking
A perennial favorite at camp, campers of all ages make and enjoy new recipes and old favorites either with their bunks or as an elective program they can choose. The children love to go to the cooking room to see what's in store for them to stir, mix, decorate, bake and eat! They learn skills like measuring, sifting, mixing, beating, decorating and more. Delicious fun for everyone!

Arts & Crafts
The Art Shed at Camp America is a fun place to be...where creativity rules! Our staff works hard to plan projects that are both age and camp appropriate. Our youngest campers work on projects like egg carton spiders and ladybugs, patterned necklaces, symmetrical butterflies and fish aquariums, to name a few. Girls create tribal pens, kaleidoscope spider pictures, threaded and counted-bead bracelets, and flower frames. They cut paper models and design their own model's clothing. Summer collages are always a hit, as well as "name that camp bug," which uses each camper's name in a personal bug design. Boys work on equally engaging projects like wooden racers, frog croakers, folded paper puppets, tribal pens, "name that camp bug," and camp bracelets. Boys also learn how to make bracelets, painted treasure chests and rainbow dream catchers with gimp.

Woodshop
The woodshop at Camp America gives campers the opportunity to work with tools and develop skills they may not have had before. In the woodshop, campers are given age-appropriate projects to work on for the summer. They learn the proper and safe way to use hand tools as well as some power tools. With the help of their counselors, campers cut, hammer and glue their projects. They also learn to finish their projects properly by painting or staining them to their own aesthetic vision. With their woodshop experience at Camp America, campers take away a life skill they can really use and enjoy!

Ceramics
In our ceramics program, campers can experiment with a variety of hand-building techniques like pinch, coil and slab. They decorate their creations using various glazing techniques, and use tools for texture. Pieces are then fired, providing lasting memories of time spent in a real working studio. Campers learn to think about their ideas and adapt to change along the way. We provide a fun, relaxed atmosphere where each child's creativity can shine.

Boating and Fishing
Campers love when it's time to visit the lake. Younger campers learn how to paddle and steer paddleboats while learning basic boating skills and safety. Older campers learn to properly use a kayak and maneuver through the lake. Fishing is always fun ¨C first campers learn safety rules for fishing equipment and then learn fundamental fishing skills to catch sunfish and bass. It's always exciting when we hear, "I got one!"

Go-Karts
Go-Karts is always a big hit at Camp America. Younger campers enjoy choosing from a variety of bikes and scooters to ride on our track. They learn balance and coordination while experiencing the joy of the wind cooling them down as they go. Older campers and CITs have the option to drive one of our Go-Karts on our track, experiencing the thrill of driving on a closed, safe course with appropriate supervision and safety equipment.

Nature
This is not the "nature" of your youth! Our children enjoy Native American games crafted from objects from nature ¨C and they're not as easy as they look at first glance! They create twig-bound journals in which to write their observations of our local leaves, plants, trees, bugs, and more. Campers catch butterflies, learn to care for our rabbit, and even have a chance to catch and observe frogs and other local creatures. They even learn a bit of science (shhh, don't tell them!) when they play with balloons and observe how they travel when air is released.

Tennis
The tennis program is focused on learning the fundamentals of the game. The campers learn how to hit forehand and backhand strokes while developing an understanding of scoring and match play. Everyone is welcome to join the tennis team for more competitive and structured play, while more casual players can enjoy a leisurely volley.

Computers
Computers at Camp America is more exciting than ever! While the rest of the camp is playing nicely, the competition at computers is raging. Campers challenge one another for the high score in games like Charlie 11, Marble Drop, Sonic and Mario. As campers pass by computers you can hear them saying "Did anyone beat my score?" or "Am I still number one?" While some campers love the competition and games, others like to "paint" and show their creativity in various digital ways. Campers can choose to work and play individually or in groups and have an opportunity to fine-tune their hand eye coordination as well as their mouse and keyboard skills.
